VPN - Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can students get access to the VPN?
A: No. We do not have the resources for both students and employees connecting via the VPN.

Q: Does the VPN treat one user different than another?
A: Not at all. It checks to see if the user account is an employee, after that there are no intelligent decisions made on the network that should make the experience different. So if one person can map a drive there isn’t anything network side that would stop the next person.

Q: Is connecting via the VPN different than being on a CVTC campus?
A: It is not. There are no network rules, firewalling or security solutions that treat traffic coming through the VPN any differently than if the endpoint were on a CVTC campus.

Q: Is there a VPN client for my mobile device?
A: There is currently no mobile client available. Plans have been made to introduce one sometime after June 1st 2020.

Q: Is Global Protect supported on personal devices?
A: The Global Protect client should work on most computers. Configurations beyond our control, such as anti-virus or other security related software are common obstacles in getting connected via a VPN tunnel.
