Microsoft Authenticator - Adding Key

If you are a current CVTC student and do not have access to a smart device, such as a phone or tablet, you can request a key/token to use with your laptop or PC as an alternative to the Microsoft Authenticator app*.

  1. Sign into myaccount.microsoft.com on any PC or laptop.
  2. Click UPDATE INFO >, under Security Info.


  3. Click Add sign-in method.


  4. Click Choose a methodSecurity key.


  5. Click Add.


  6. Click Next, if you are prompted to re-sign in with two-factor authentication.


  7. Follow the prompts to log in with two-factor authentication.
    • If you are unable to use the app to log-in, please click here for alternative methods.
    • If you have troubles logging in, please call the Service Desk at 715-830-5555 and we can assist with the log in.

  8. Click USB device.


  9. Click Next.


  10. When prompted, plug they USB key into your device. 


  11. Enter your PIN.
    Confirm PIN.
    Click Next.


  12. When prompted touch your thumb to the key.

  13. Enter the Security Key Name.
    Click Next.


  14. Click Done.


  15. The Passkey will now show in your device list.

*If you forgot your smart device or got a new one and need to get logged into your account click here for alternative methods to log in or contact the IT Service Desk at 715-830-5555 and we can provide you with a one time pass-code to get logged in.

*If a key/token is lost or misplaced you may be charged for the replacement if one is still needed.

*If you are an employee of CVTC and need a key/token, please submit a ticket via email to serivcedesk@cvtc.edu providing your budget string and you can pick up (or we can drop off) your key/token.
