How to Capture a Screen Recording on an iPad/iPhone
If you are using an iPad or iPhone, you can use the built-in application to capture a screen recording.
Note: this article covers devices using iOS 18 and iPadOS 18. Instructions for iOS 17 or iPadOS 17 and older can be found on the Apple website.
- Starting from the upper right corner, swipe down to open the Control Center.
- Tap the plus icon in the upper left to edit the control center.
- Click "Add a Control" at the bottom of this menu.
- Tap the Screen Recording icon to make it accessible from your control center.
- Tap the Screen Recording icon to start your recording.
- A 3-second timer will count down before the recording begins.
- A red recording icon will appear in the upper corner while video is being captured.
- You can also tap and hold the screen recorder icon to access recording options.
- Be sure to double check this if you want your screen recording to include microphone audio.

- Once you've finished, you can tap the screen recorder icon again (tap the red recording icon or swipe down to open the Control Center) to stop the recording.
By default, screen recording saves to your photo album, so you can also edit and trim your video as needed.
