Launching VMware Horizon from a Web Browser - Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI)

CVTC employees and students have access to a Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) through the VMware Horizon platform.

Horizon is a Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) that allows users to access a cloud-based Windows desktop machine through their web browser. No installation is required, making it compatible with MacOS and Chromebook operating systems.

To access VMware Horizon:

  1. Select VMware Horizon HTML Access.

  1. Click the computer icon or name (Win 10 – General Desktop) to connect.

  1. Once the virtual desktop fully loads, you will see a Windows desktop within your web browser. This virtual desktop is a CVTC device and is connected to the CVTC network.

    • The VMware Horizon virtual desktop will remain in your browser window, allowing you to use it alongside the programs running on your personal computer. For example, you can open another browser window or tab, or switch to another program installed on your computer. Closing out of the tab will also disconnect you from the virtual desktop, so make sure your work has been saved before doing so.
    • Use the web browser located within the VMware Horizon virtual desktop to access resources where the CVTC network is required - for example, Early Alerts, library resources, etc.
