Canvas Video Discussions
Canvas discussions can be used to post instructor and student videos using Canvas Studio.
Canvas discussion can be used by students to view a recording from the instructor and reply with their own recording using Canvas Studio.
Create the Canvas Discussion
- Create the Canvas discussion topic.

- Add the Topic Title (1).
Add the Discussion body using the DesignPLUS Template Content (2). Further details can be found in this User Guide for Template Content.
- Add the instruction using the DesignPLUS Content Block. Further details can be found in this User Guide for Content Blocks.

- Make any changes to the text in the body.
- Select the discussion Options. Further details can be found in this Canvas Community Discussion guide.

- Click the Save button.

Record your Video (optional)
You can add a video introduction to the body of the discussion if you will be providing a sample to students.
- Click the three-dot kebab menu, then Edit.

- Position your cursor on the page where your recording will be placed.
- Click the Studio icon from the editor. You may need to click the three-dot kebab menu to see the Studio icon.

- Click the Create button (1) and then Studio Capture (2), this may also say Webcam Capture.

- Test your microphone and camera then click the Start Recording button.

- After you are done recording, click the Finish button.

- Add a Title and click the Save Media button.

- Hover over the video you recorded and click to Select your video.

- Move the Display Media Tabs slider to the left so it is not selected.

- Click the Embed Media button.

Your video will be embedded in the discussion. - Click the Save button.

Student View
- Students will click into the discussion from the calendar, To Do list, Assignments, or Discussion.
- They will click the Reply button and follow the same steps to record their video, starting with Step #3, in the section above.
- They will then click the Reply button to post to the discussion.
Notes
- If the discussion is graded, SpeedGrader can be used to watch and grade student videos.
