How to Correct Gradebook Errors: 0s for Ungraded Assignments
Canvas Gradebook Errors: 0s for Ungraded Assignments
This can occur when course content from a previous term is imported into the current term and retain their original due dates. This can lead to confusion and inaccurate grading, as the grade book may treat assignments as past due even though they haven't reached their due date in the new term.
Audience
Instructors that use the gradebook in Canvas.
Fixing Gradebook Errors
- Find the column in the grade book that has the zero grades.
- Click on the kebab in that column and click on Set Default Grade
- In the pop-up, leave the grade box empty, click the overwrite already-entered grades and click Set Default Grade
- You'll do this for each assignment or quiz that is showing 0s as the grade.
- In cross-listed courses, there may be submitted grades from students and other students with a zero grade. To correct this, click the carrot next to the grade and select ungraded.
If you've already had to fix any grades that were incorrectly set to zero due to this issue, please be aware that your setting to auto-grade missing assignments may not be working as expected.
Even if you aren't currently experiencing issues, we recommend reviewing your gradebook and double-checking all grades, especially if you use the "Automatically apply grade for missing submissions" setting.
