Print Screen is a key present on most PC keyboards. The print screen key is typically located next to the F1-F12 keys on your keyboard.
NOTE: If you are using a laptop, you may have to hold the Fn (Function Key) to access the Print Screen function. It sometimes shares a key with SysRq.

The Print Screen key may be labeled as:

  • Print Screen
  • Print Scrn

  • Prt Scn
  • Prt Scr
  • Prt Sc
  • Pr Sc

    • Rectangular snip. Drag the cursor around an object to form a rectangle.
    • Window snip. Select a window, such as a browser window or dialog box, that you want to capture.

Copy all screens

Print Screen creates a copy of whatever is visible on your computer monitor or monitors. When used, this tool will allow you to paste that image into an email, word document or other program.
NOTE: If you have multiple monitors, it will capture ALL monitors. If you would only like to copy your current monitor, see Copy a single screen below.

  1. Locate the Print Screen key on your keyboard.
  2. Press Print Screen to capture of everything that is currently displaying on your screen. It will copy the image to the clipboard so that you can paste it into other applications or programs.
  3. Open the application or program (i.e. paint, word, email) you wish to paste your screenshot into. Paste your image into the application or program by using the key combination of Ctrl+V or right-click your mouse button and choose Paste.

Save all screens

When using the Print Screen+Windows keys, it will save the capture to your Pictures folder on your C: drive. You can then attach the file to an email, or insert it to a word document or other program.

  1. Locate the Print Screen and Windows key on your keyboard.
  2. Press the Print Screen + Windows keys together to capture everything that is currently displaying on your screen(s). It saves the image to the Pictures folder on your C: drive.
  3. Open the application or program (i.e. paint, word, email) you wish to attach your screenshot into. Click the attachment icon (usually a paperclip) in your program and navigate to where your screenshot is saved.
  4. Double click the file to attach it.

Copy a single screen

If you have multiple screens you can use the Print Screen + Alt keys, and it will only copy the active screen, not all screens.

  1. Locate the Print Screen and Alt keys on your keyboard.
  2. Make sure the screen you want to capture is active. Press Print Screen + Alt to capture just that screen.
  3. Open the application or program (i.e. paint, word, email) you wish to paste your screenshot into. Paste your image into the application or program by using the key combination of Ctrl+V or right-click your mouse button and choose Paste.
