Canvas - How to Use Conversations (Inbox)

  1. Login to Canvas.
  2. Click Inbox in your Global Navigation.
  3. Navigate to your message with one of the following:
    • To create a new message, click the Compose button in the upper right corner.
    • To reply to or forward a message, select the message from the list, then use the corresponding icon located in the upper right corner of the message window, below the Compose button.

  4. The Canvas Inbox can only communicate between users within your courses; external messages should use email. When composing a message, you will need to search for your recipient.
    • The Course field allows your to filter a list of potential recipients to a single course.
    • The To field can also be used filter by names (users or courses); you can enter text or click the directory button to navigate through clickable filter options.
  5. Type a subject and your message.
  6. If needed, you can attach media or files with the icons in the bottom left hand corner.
  7. Click the Send button in the lower right corner when ready to send your message.
