Ability to Benefit
A provision of Title IV of the Higher Education Act allows students lacking a high school diploma or its equivalent to access federal financial aid if they are enrolled in an eligible career pathway program and can demonstrate college readiness. Candidates need to successfully pass assessments in reading, arithmetic, and writing. This exam is offered at all CVTC locations. There is a $25 fee payable at the time of the appointment. Accuplacer
Accuplacer is an untimed, computerized test that helps evaluate skills and program readiness. Skills are assessed in reading, writing, and quantitative reasoning, algebra, and statistics (QAS). Students taking Accuplacer for entry into an Apprenticeship agreement will need to take reading, arithmetic, and QAS. This exam is offered at all CVTC locations. There is a $25 fee payable at the time of testing appointment. Payment can be made at Student Central, room 113, at the Business Education Center or at the front office at outlying campuses. ASE
The National Institute for Auto Service Excellence is an independent non-profit organization that works to improve the quality of vehicle repair and service by testing and certifying automotive technicians and service professionals. Candidates register for exams at www.ASE.com and then schedule online through Prometric. This exam is offered only at the Eau Claire Business Education Center. Payment is required when registering for the exam; fees vary.
Pearson VUE/GED
Pearson VUE provides computer-based testing for information technology, academic, government and numerous professional organizations. Candidates can view a list of program certifications and sign-up for tests at www.pearsonvue.com. GED exams are offered at all CVTC locations. The Business Education Center offers a wider range of tests in addition to GED exams. Payment is required at the time of test registration and varies by exam.
HESI
Health Education Systems, Inc. offers an Admission Assessment (A2) exam which is an admission requirement for select health programs. The test assesses knowledge in math, anatomy & physiology, grammar, reading comprehension, and vocabulary. Learn more about the HESI and schedule an appointment. This exam is offered at the River Falls Campus and Eau Claire Business Education Center. There is a $55 fee payable at the time of the testing appointment. Payment can be made at Student Central, room 113, at the Business Education Center or at the front office at the River Falls Campus.

CLEP
The College Level Examination Program (CLEP) is a group of standardized tests created and administered by College Board that assess college-level knowledge in many subject areas and provide a mechanism for earning college credits without taking college courses. Information regarding which CLEP exams are accepted at CVTC are located on our website. To take a CLEP exam, first register, then call 715-833-6346 to schedule an exam time. This exam is offered only at the Eau Claire Business Education Center. Payment is required when registering for an exam with CLEP. There is an additional $25 proctoring fee payable at the time of the testing appointment. Payment can be made at Student Central, room 113, at the Business Education Center.
Tailwind – Liberal Arts Placement Exam
Students intending to take Liberal Arts math, chemistry, or physics courses are required to take a placement exam. The placement scores will be used by your advisor to plan your course schedule. There is a $25 fee payable at the time of the testing appointment. Payment can be made at Student Central, room 113, at the Business Education Center or at the front office at outlying campuses. WorkKeys
The ACT WorkKeys National Career Readiness Certificate (ACT WorkKeys NCRC®) is an assessment-based credential. The NCRC measures and certifies the essential work skills needed for success in jobs across industries and occupations. Individuals who successfully complete the three WorkKeys assessments — Applied Math, Graphic Literacy, and Workplace Documents - earn the WorkKeys National Career Readiness Certificate®. Contact Academic Services for test prep assistance and study materials. Call 715-833-6346 to schedule assessments. There is a fee payable at the time of the testing appointment.
Proctored Exams
Exams can be proctored at each of our CVTC campuses. Student Central can help determine which campus would meet your needs. They can be contacted at 715-833-6200. There may be a fee charged; payable when arriving to test.
Academic Support
Many college students need help at some point in their education. Learning Centers are located on each campus to provide support to our students. The Academic Support Team provides FREE homework help, study skills, and test preparation, technology support, other tutoring services. Learning materials and one-on-one assistance is provided by qualified faculty and peer tutors in our open lab(s). No appointments are necessary! The first time you visit our lab you will be required to register, which allows our team to obtain valuable data about our services.
