Google - How to Change Editing Permissions for Others on Your Google Doc
1. Open the Google Doc, Sheet, Slide, etc. that you would like to modifying editing permissions on. Click 'Share' in the top right hand corner.
2. At the Share menu, you will see who owns the document and who currently has access. Next to each collaborator's name is their specific editing permissions. If you want to change the permissions each collaborator has, click on the icon next to each collaborator's name.
- An Editor will be able to fully edit the file. Make sure that you trust anyone with this permission level.
- A Commenter will be able to view the file and create comments
- A Viewer will be able to view the document with no additional permissions
- You can set an expiration date for each individual collaborator. Setting an expiration date deletes that collaborator's access on the expiration date.
- General access changes will apply access/restrictions to anyone who isn't specifically added.
When you are finished, click 'Done' to save any changes.
3. Invite collaborators by typing their email in the box. You can use the semicolon (;) to separate emails and add more than one person at a time. Use the drop menu that appears next to the box to adjust the editing permissions for these collaborators.
Select the "Notify people" option if you want to send them an email link to the file. When you are finished adding collaborators, click 'Send' (or 'Share' if you are not sending a notification).
